Use have and had correctly
Gunakan Have dan Had Secara Tepat

Susan has lived in Los Angeles for ten years.

Contoh:
At the start of the nineteenth century, Thomas Jefferson has become* president of the United States.
Every time Jim worked on his car, he has improved* it.

Pada contoh pertama, ungkapan At the start of the nineteenth century menunjukan bahwa kejadian tersebut adalah hanya di masa lalu, tetapi kata kerjanya menunjukan periode dari waktu lampau hingga waktu sekarang. Beranjak dari kalimat ini, tidak masuk akal. Kalimat ini salah. *Kata kerja pada contoh pertama seharusnya bentuk simple past (lampau sederhana) yaitu became, bukan has become.

Contoh:
Sue had lived in Los Angeles for ten years when she moved to San Diego.

Contoh:
Tom had finished the exam when the teacher collects* the papers.
